I am down to the END of my food. My refrigerator holds 3 jalapenos, some broccoli, a couple of limes, some herbs, a few things in jars… A couple of hours ago, however, it also held the following:
half an onion
(also garlic, unrefrigerated)
And luckily, those ingredients work WONDERFULLY for a Thai-style stir-fry. In my cast-iron skillet, I heated some olive oil, before adding all but the shrimp and cilantro. When the veggies had softened, I added a bit of fish sauce, some oyster sauce, a bit of white pepper, the shrimp, and cilantro. The end result? Delicious dinner!
Cilantro, onions, garlic, limes, and jalapenos are staples in my kitchen. They also all work in both Thai and Mexican food—2 of my favorite cuisines. It is quite cost-efficient and easy to throw together meals when you keep versatile items like these on your staple list! Other staples of mine include eggs, chicken, kale, bacon, grass-fed ground beef and bell peppers. Avocados, basil, pork butt, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and tomatoes also make frequent appearances. What are your kitchen mainstays?
